Live video tuition has at last come of age and is about to revolutionise home tuition. Until only recently, with faster speeds, better hardware and software, has this been possible. The benefits to parents are not just cheaper tuition fees and the affordability of more lessons. what to do
- Sign up to a Skype account(free) here .
- You will also need to sign up to TalkAndWrite through Skype. This is a Skype pluggin. The program allows worksheets, diagrams, exam questions etc. to be put as a background to a whiteboard screen. This is an essential part of live video tuition.
You need the basic version. This is also free.
- If you don't have a good quality webcam, then buy one; the higher the screen resolution the better.
- To write on the white board you will need a graphics tablet. Just a cheap one will do.
- When you are ready, complete the request form(at the bottom of the page) and submit it.
- On receiving your form, I'll email you and invite you to arrange a mutually agreed time for a 'test' meeting(via Skype). I am fairly flexible on this, but bear in mind that I am on GMT(Edinburgh, London, Lisbon) time. Give me a few choices between 6am and 12am(midnight).
- The meeting need last no more than 15 minutes. In this time we will adjust the picture and sound levels and it is an opportunity for you to tell me a little about yourself and anything you missed out from the request form. You need to email me any scanned documents you think may be useful (eg homework sheets, pages from text books, old exam papers). It is OK if you have none of these I have plenty of material we can work through.
- After the meeting, to proceed you must make a payment of $20 for 1 hour's tuition (via paypal), or however many hours you wish to buy. Go to the 'payment page' to do this.
- When payment has been received, I will email and confirm the date(s) and time(s) of the session(s) paid for.
